We will field one team per age group and provide top notch coaching for that team. Our mission is simple: to provide our players with the opportunity to compete in lacrosse tournaments held throughout the country during the summer and fall. Many of these tournaments exist to showcase our players to college coaches. These tournaments also have divisions for younger high school and middle school teams. Experienced and proven coaching is the cornerstone of the BLC. Lifelong friendships between players and parents from the many different schools and communities from which our teams are comprised is an added benefit of the club experience!

This weekend July 4th and 5th on four beautiful private school campuses in Roland Park, Maryland teams from as far away as Seattle Washington, Boston Massachusetts and Charlotte North Carolina will compete for the championship of the Baltimore Lacrosse Club CRABFEAST CHALLENGE!
Defending Champion Dukes Lacrosse Club of the greater Philadelphia Metro area will return under the veteran leadership of Ebe Helm and Jason Christmas as the # 1 seed. Normally big strong and fast, the Dukes play an upbeat and skilled game that makes them dangerous on the field. At # 2 the CRABS 2012 team features a blend of players from the Baltimore Metro area. Good sticks and fast ball movement can be the key to their success in 2009. The #3 squad out of Fairfield County Connecticut is the CT Chargers. Coach Paul Burke (Greenwich HS) will lead a talented group that has been close to the championship in the past and just may have the talent in 2009 to make it to the finals! Our # 4 seed is a new entrant to the CRABFEAST, Laxachusetts Lacrosse Club. This group will have a predominately Duxbury MA flavor and have been together the last couple years making a name for themselves as a group to be reckoned with!
Rounding out our top 8 teams at # 5 is Next Level a DC metro team featuring many future Landon lacrosse stars and # 6 Madlax another DC Metro group coached by former Hobart great Cabell Maddux. The # 7 spot went to left coast entrant WA Starz. This group surprised many last year with their excellent ball movement and skilled play. This year they return with many starters and should be even better! At # 8 is Ryan Boyle's Trilogy Lacrosse Club coached by Gilman school 1st assistant Owen Daly. The Trilogy group has talent across positions and could sneak up on the Dukes in pool play.
Other notable entrants that could prove the seeding committee wrong would be the Toronto Edge rising sophomore team, Ocean State Whalers out of Rhode Island and Greene Turtle Lacrosse Club. Look for a lot of closely contested games this weekend on the turf fields of The Boys' LatinSchool, GilmanSchool and the RolandParkCountrySchool!

Boy's High School Results for Wednesday, July 1st
Dr. Tom Watts Memorial Boys U19:
Championship Game:
Baltimore Crabs 12, Team Colorado 9 - scoresheet
The Baltimore Crabs were able to cash in their offensive opportunities en route to their fourth straight Dr. Tom Watts Memorial Tournament Championship on Wednesday afternoon. Their late run started at 2:36 in the third with a rip from John Kaestner (Johns Hopkins - 3g, 1a) and moments later, Chris Costabile (Dartmouth – 3g, 0a) punched one home. The Crabs then got off two more sandwiched around a Colorado goal by Michael Biemford (Ohio State – 3g, 0a) to push the score to 12-9 with 9:05 left. That hill would prove too tough for Colorado to climb who battled well all game but did not have the firepower to get their first win since 2005.
The Crabs offense got hot twice and used those runs to set them apart from Colorado. Their first started after a broken play with 5:40 left in the second quarter. At the time Colorado was leading 4-3 but the Crabs scored five goals before the half ended, taking an 8-4 lead into the break. The Colorado Defense played good individual defense on the day and defended the transition game of Baltimore well, but the Crabs were good at creating confusion off ball and used their excellent lacrosse IQ as the game wore on.
The close defense of Baltimore hounded the dangerous Colorado attack all day long and held Colorado’s starters to 2g, 1a. In goal Adam Cohen (UMBC) played the first half finishing with six saves and Harry Krieger (Harvard) also had six saves but made five of them in the fourth quarter to fend off the a possible Colorado comeback. Mark Jutkowitz (Maryland) and Harry Prevas (Virginia) were brilliant on defense for the Crabs.
Colorado fought hard but weren’t able to tie the game at any point in the second half. Midfielder Drew Babb (Denver – 1g, 0a) had a good day and played well on both ends creating a lot of good opportunities on offense. In goal Dom Poletto (Manhattanville) finished with six saves playing the first half and James Standley (Chapman) had with five in the second half.
The championship for the Crabs marks the only time a team has won four straight U-19 titles at the Vail Lacrosse Shootout.
Wednesday Results:
Division I:
Championship: Baltimore Crabs 12, Team Colorado 9 - scoresheet
3rd Place: East Coast Kings 11, Players Lacrosse Club 5 - scoresheet
5th Place: Team Ohio 15, War Cry Lacrosse 3 - scoresheet
7th Place: Maverik Dallas 8, Blue Lion Elite 7 - scoresheet

The Club is pleased to announce the 2009 U19 Crabs Vail Shootout Team! We wish them the best of luck in Colorado as they challenge to win the tournament for a record 4th straight time!

| | CRABS 2010's Tri State 2008 AA CHAMPIONS | | | 7: Baltimore Lacrosse Club players
Of the list of commitments, eight (Mark McNeill, Patrick Foster, R.G. Keenan, Alex Chay, Jeff Fountain, Quinn Haley, Brian Cooper, Phil Poe) are from the Baltimore Lacrosse Club (Crabs) 2010 squad. More Crabs - like IL No. 18 Robert Posniewski and IL No. 21 Jake Haley - are also expected to make a verbal commitment in the ensuing weeks and months. That’s a pile of DI talent for one club team.
This particular group of players has played together since 2006, when they were selected from a 140 players who tried out for the program’s first freshman-only team, called the “Fantastic Freshmen.” The program switched from the U-age format to selecting teams by graduation class to adjust to the evolving recruiting scene, says BLC founder/director Ryan McClernan.
“It’s a great way to look at these kids within their class,” says McClernan. “If you have a younger player going against a team of older players and is struggling, coaches may think he’s getting the [stuffing] beat out him, but what they don’t know is that he’s really a 15-year old going against 18-year olds.”
Since their formation, the Crabs 2010 team has compiled a staggering 47-1 record over the past two summers. That success, says McClernan, is matched by the group’s comradery.
“This is a goofy group of boys,” says McClernan. “They play hard for each other. There’s a lot of love with this group, which you like to see out there on the field.”
With most players committing, The Crabs 2010 team will participate in just two tournaments this summer. But keep an eye on the 2011 squad, which also has several DI prospects.

Congrats to the Under 19 Crabs for winning their 3rd Vail Shootout in a row! They won 13-6 yesterday on the beautiful Ford field in Vail CO over Colorado Select. Colorado Select was a surprise finalist defeating Team OHIO in their semifinal. More on this:
Crabs make it a three-peat in Vail
Vail, CO Colorado
(Theo Stroomer/Vail Daily)
VAIL, Colorado — The familiar chant started as the final seconds wound down Wednesday. It continued as the Baltimore team posed for a team picture with every family member seemingly present with a camera.
And it erupted again when the Baltimore players accepted the championship trophy at Ford Park.
“Crabs, Crabs, Crabs.”
Each year, it’s new cast of characters in Baltimore blue and gold, and for the third year in a row, the Crabs locked their claws onto a boys high school Vail Lacrosse Shootout title. Tuesday, Baltimore broke open a close 6-5 game at halftime against the Colorado Favorites and cruised to a 13-6 win.
“It’s great just to represent the area,” Crabs midfielder Peter Smyth, of the Baltimore/Washington D.C. all-star team. “Last year, I had bunch of buddies who came out here and played. They said it was a great time.”
“This is my first tournament with the Crabs, but coming out here, we came out wanting to win,” tournament MVP Jake Fradkin said. “We came through.”
After beating each other up during the high school season in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association or in nonconference play in between the two cities, the Crabs come out to Vail for the Shootout. It’s fun, but there seems to be a legacy to protect.
“This is sweet,” Crabs coach Chris Malone said. “I think when you’ve won it here for the last two years, coming out here for the third time, there’s a little more added pressure. You’ve got the alums who’ve played in the past, who’ve won, and they’re cheering you on. You’ve got the younger kids who are in high school cheering for you now. There’s a lot of pressure. These guys played well all week and really came together as a team.”
For the Favorites, who also played under the appellation of Victorious Secret, it was a tough way to end an otherwise successful week. Having been incorrectly dubbed as castoffs from Team Colorado, which took third Wednesday, the Favorites showed that lacrosse is on the rise in the Centennial State.
“I think Colorado lacrosse has come so far in the past few years,” Favorites coach Jack Giancola said. “I’ve always said our best players can play with their best players any time anywhere. That’s been evidenced this year.”
Lockdown
But when push came to shove, Baltimore won out. The first half ended with Colorado killing off 1:30 of penalty time and the Favorites trailing, 6-5. It was a combination of stellar defense and a great transition game from the Crabs and poor ball-handling by the Favorites that led to a Baltimore landslide in the final 24 minutes.
“I think we played smart,” Malone said. “On the offensive end, we had some possessions (in the first half) we threw away in the first 10-15 seconds of having the ball, and in the second half, we had it for a minute and scored.
“We also started sliding a little different. We were going to make them beat us with their left hand. We didn’t feel like they had too many guys out there in the midfield who could beat us left-handed. I think this helped us.”
Baltimore’s Michael Grossman scored with 8:22 left in the third, and Colorado’s Ryan Link answered three minutes later. From then on, the Crabs took over.
Alex Capretta and Grossman struck to put the Crabs ahead, 9-6. In the fourth, the onslaught continued with Jake Willertz twice, Eric Keppler and Capretta again. The Crabs seemed to capitalize on every small mistake Colorado made.
“It all started with M.J. Leonard in goal and the defense,” Smyth said. “Once we started making stops on defense, we just settled the ball on offense 6-on-6.”
All-stars
Both teams were conglomerations of their high schools back home. Colorado at times looked like Cherry Creek’s varsity team with some players from Regis, Kent Denver and Mullen sprinkled in for good measure.
The Crabs represented the MIAA and the nation’s capital’s best.
“I remember when I was playing it was always fun playing with guys you faced all year,” Malone said. “But as a coach, it’s a different challenge. Now you have a couple guys with different roles. They have to want to do those roles. These guys were willing to do whatever it took.”
While the current Crabs will scatter all over the country to play for college programs, Baltimore will be back in 2009 for an attempt at a four-peat.
“I don’t know if I want that job,” Malone joked.

The Baltimore Lacrosse Club Crabs head to Vail today to defend their 2007 Under 19 Vail Shootout title. Action starts on Sunday with shortened round robin games to determine seeding.
Team Winnipeg (Canada) followed by Midwest Elite and Colorado Select make up the round robin schedule.
Arizona State University head coach Chris Malone (Loyola, Maryland) will lead the squad this year as a prior business commitment has kept longtime coach Ryan McClernan back east. Coach Malone will be assisted by Mike McComas and a bevy of injured CRABS!
The end of the high school season was not kind to the Crabs this year as several star players are currently injured including the entire starting defense! Joe Bonanni (St.Mary's, OSU), Charlie McComas (Boys'Latin, UNC) and Scott Matthews (St.Pauls, JHU) are down with foot, shoulder, and knee injuries respectively. On offense Steele Stanwick (Loyola,UVA) and Mark Feild ( Boys' Latin Princeton) are out with a broken hand and foot respectively. Ouch!
However the squad is deep with players like Peter Windsor (St.Pauls, St.Marys) and Alex Gottsch (Gilman,Trinity) back on defense as well as new comers Mike Flanagan (GT Prep, Princeton) and Jake Brems (GT Prep, Notre Dame) and Jake Fradken ( St.Pauls, Rutgers).
The offense still packs a wallop with size and speed at the midfield; Jeff Mann ( Dulaney, USNA) and Eric Keppeler (Dulaney, Notre Dame), Mike Rodgers (Dematha,Notre Dame) Alex Capretta (Glen Mill, Princeton) Mike Grossman (Landon, Princeton) Cliff Larkin ( St.Pauls, Princeton) and Matt Lamon ( St.Marys, Towson) just to name a few!
As always playing ball at 8000 feet in the beautiful setting of Vail Colorado, is a great way to end a high school career! The fellowship of the sport is unmatched and while we always root our CRABS on to victory the trip is about much more then competition. The players will get a chance to relax , swim, play golf and whitewater raft as well!
Good luck Crabs!!
